Keep your home secure from winter weather with these winter home maintenance tips!
Winter is here! Just because the temperature drops, doesn’t mean there isn’t home maintenance to do. During the winter, make sure to check out these tips to make sure your home is in tip-top shape.
During the wintertime, a fire in the fireplace seems to make the season a little cozier, but be wary of fire dangers. Open the flue when lighting a fire, always keep your fireplace clean, and remove ashes once the embers cool. It’s also a good idea to make sure your smoke detectors are working properly. Give them a test, and replace their batteries.
Make sure your vents are closed. Open vents can let cold air into your home, increasing your heating bill.
You should have your roof inspected annually. If it’s been a while, make sure your roof is in good shape. Winter weather can be damaging to your roof. Have any issues resolved to keep any damages to a minimum.
Regularly inspect your gutters and storm drains throughout the season. Debris can get caught in them and can cause all sorts of problems. Also, make sure that the structure of your gutters is strong. Fix any loose brackets or make sure joints are secure.
The wintertime brings colder temperatures. Make sure to keep cold air out of your home and invest in weather stripping your home. From the front door to the garage door, you’ll have a warmer house all winter long! You may even save a little on your heating bill.
