What is the benefit of working with an independent insurance agent versus a captive agent? Well first let’s take a minute to define both types.
An independent agency works for themselves and can sell the products of multiple insurance companies. A captive agent is a representative of a particular insurance agency and will represent the products of that company in a specified area.
One of the reasons we are an independent insurance agency is for a very simple one. It offers us the opportunity to search various companies, of which we represent, and offer you the best price. Better pricing is just the start.
Captive agents are not only beholden to what a particular company’s products are; they are swayed by what that company wants them to sell. This does not leave you, the customer, with the true amount of choices you should have.
That’s not to say these captive agents represent bad products or are bad agents. Many captive agents represent solid companies with great reputations. There are excellent captive agents who serve their clients well. We however, feel an independent agent can show you more options, and if price is a major consideration, can offer better pricing.
