Protect Your Family from Carbon Monoxide

Protect Your Family from Carbon Monoxide

  • Archives, Blog, General Articles

Don’t let your family be vulnerable to deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that is a byproduct of the incomplete burning of fuel such as gasoline, charcoal, and so on. Because it is both colorless and odorless, carbon monoxide is undetectable to the human senses. Unfortunately, if inhaled, carbon monoxide can restrict the flow of oxygen within the body and can eventually lead to suffocation. Make sure that your family is safe from the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning by taking these safety precautions.

1) Know the Signs of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include: fatigue, headache, nausea, difficulty breathing, and faintness. If you notice these symptoms in yourself or a family member while in proximity to a fuel burning source, shut off the device and leave the area immediately.

2) Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Much like smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors are a great way to warn your family about a potential danger. Because carbon monoxide is virtually undetectable by humans, carbon monoxide detectors are one of the only ways to sense a leak in your home. You should install carbon monoxide detectors on every floor and in every sleeping area of your home. If you hear your detector go off, get your family outside as quickly as possible and contact emergency services.

3) Never Run Engines or Burn Fuel in Enclosed Areas

To prevent dangerous carbon monoxide buildup, make sure that you never run engines or burn fuel in enclosed or poorly-ventilated area. For instance, you should never run your car while the garage door is closed and you should avoid lighting up a grill in indoor areas such as your basement.

Use these safety precautions to keep your family safe from the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning.  Another important safety step is having the necessary insurance protection your family needs.  To get the coverage you need, contact the team at Gant Insurance Agency in McKinney, Texas.  Our dedicated professionals are eager to assist you with all your insurance needs.
