April is National Stress Awareness Month. This month-long campaign is dedicated to spreading awareness of the negative effects of stress on our mental, emotional, and physical health. In honor of this month, we should all make an effort to keep our stress levels at a minimum. Here are some of the things that you can do to control your stress this month.

Make Time to De-Stress

Everyone has their own way of relaxing. For instance, some people might find that exercise is the best way for them to blow off steam and distract from their stressors. However, other people might find relaxation in quiet activities such as reading, writing, watching TV, and so on. Whatever helps you relax, it’s important that you make time to pursue these activities. By setting aside time to de-stress every day, you can keep your stress levels at a manageable level.

Avoid Your Stressors

Your life is busy enough as it is, so there’s no reason to invite more stress in. That’s why you should make an effort to avoid the people and situations that cause you stress. However, avoiding your stressors is easier said than done. Oftentimes, it’s simply impossible to avoid the things that stress you out. If this is the case, remember that you can always take a break. Learn to Say “No”

Finally, many people actually manufacture their own stress. They take on too many projects, get too caught up in minor details, and simply attempt to control too many aspects of their lives. If you know that you tend to bite off more than you can chew, it’s important that you learn to say “no.” Once you learn to let the small things go, you will find that you are much less stressed.
